All Whitewaterrafting workshops are led by professional working artists with a Bachelor of Fine Arts college degree or higher.

Pretty much everything. We bring the materials, tools, table protection, workshop setup, examples for demonstrating techniques, artist facilitation, and take care of cleanup afterward.

Material Lab workshops accommodate groups of 15 — 80 people; Open Making Table workshops accommodate 15 — 100+ people.

For larger events, we design the experience around the flow of the gathering. We use multiple making stations and multiple teaching artists, prepare materials in advance, and have guests drop in throughout the event.

Open Making Table formats work especially well for 100+ guests because people can join whenever they like rather than everyone starting at once.

We come to you — your event venue, restaurant, retreat, private dining room, or other gathering space throughout Los Angeles. Residential events may also be available depending on the setup and staffing required.

We typically just need tables, chairs, and access to the space before and after the experience. We’ll confirm the exact setup with you ahead of time.

Material Labs usually run 60 — 90 minutes. Open Making Tables stay open throughout a set portion of the event, typically 2 — 3 hours, with guests dropping in for about 10 — 20 minutes at a time. Custom workshop timing depends on the format and event schedule.

Setup and cleanup happen separately, so the full booked time is spent making.

Because the goal isn’t to reproduce an example. We teach you how to work with the materials, then give everyone the same clear starting point, constraints, and time to work within. The structure is shared; what you make is your own.

Perfectly fine! We demonstrate the materials and techniques and give everyone a clear prompt and starting point. You’ll always know where to begin, with plenty of room to take the work in your own direction.

It depends on the format. Material Lab pieces belong to the individual participants.

Open Making Table // Painted Tile pieces can go home with guests, be gathered into a quick mini exhibition, or be assembled afterward into one permanent artwork for the host, couple, or group.

For Open Making Table // Small Gift, each piece is packaged and given to its recipient to take home.

Custom Workshops can result in individual works, one shared artwork, or something designed specifically for the event. If final assembly is required, we’ll confirm the timing with you in advance.

2–4 weeks ahead is ideal for most workshops. For larger Open Making Tables, events with 100+ guests, or custom commissions, 4–6 weeks gives us time to plan staffing, materials, and setup properly. Planning something sooner? Ask us — we may still be able to make it happen.

A 50% deposit secures your date, with the remaining balance due 7 days before your workshop. We’ll send you a secure online invoice for payment.

Cancellations made more than 14 days in advance are refunded, less a $200 booking fee. Cancellations made within 14 days forfeit the deposit. Cancellations made within 7 days are nonrefundable.

Workshops may be rescheduled once with 14+ days notice, subject to availability.

Yes. We can provide proof of general liability insurance, name your venue as an additional insured when required, and complete standard vendor paperwork. We’ll also coordinate setup, load-in, cleanup, and any venue-specific requirements ahead of the event.
